Crisis Counselling
Crisis Counselling is a short-term approach to therapy. Sudden, difficult events can sometimes be so jarring that we don't have our usual sense of balance or problem-solving. When you feel overwhelmed, having a good listener to help sort things out can be a relief.
In my experience practicing Crisis Counselling, there are concrete ways that therapy can help. I start by getting a holistic sense of where the work needs to be done. I do this simply by assessing the impact of the crisis and the client's strategies to cope. I can then prioritise the therapeutic work so that it meets the client's specific goals.
After a crisis, people want to feel in control and know that relief is coming. I work with clients to re-establish their sense of balance, hope, and empowerment.
