Existential Therapy
Existential Therapy (ET) is known for providing counsellors with a particular way of understanding people and wellness. A defining feature of ET is it's mandate that therapists create a unique therapy for each client.
The ET view of individuals reflects the reality that painful and devastating things occur alongside the more comfortable things we experience during our lives. Knowing this, How does one cope? With this responsibility-taking approach, ET helps my clients enact change on many levels.
ET provides me with a context for a client's unique experience. I learn about the meaning of life events from my client's perspective, and see how they manage what comes their way. Life, death and illness; changes to one's world view; a fluctuating sense of personal control; loneliness, authenticity: these are all examples of some issues for which ET is an effective approach.
Lastly, I draw on ET when I learn that a client has lost trust in themselves. This is a commonplace reaction when we are in pain and struggling. I create the context for you to clarify what your intuition is saying, and how to act on it.
