Solution-Focused Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT) is a brief approach to therapy, which I combine with the majority of my counselling work. Based on the therapy's name, one correctly assumes that it is focused on solutions. SFT guides me in assessing what a client wants from therapy, what will work best for them, and how they can realistically build towards their goals.
With a focus on goal-setting and a future-orientation, SFT has been influential in many healing and educational fields. In fact, the style of goal-setting that most people have in their daily lives is a part of SFT. "What do I want from my life?" "Specifically, how will I know when I am finally satisfied with where I'm at?" "How do I get there?" Using SFT, I help you to answer these questions and build flexible, realistic, steps to reach your goals. I motivate you along the way, by encouraging you to learn from your setbacks and to reformulate what is not working.
Solution-Focused Therapy is based in best-practice research, and can help individuals to see change quickly. If you want to face some difficult struggles this approach could be very effective for you.
